30-Year-Old Dad Scolds 28-Year-Old Mom for Pressuring Their Daughter to Wear a Dress to Grandma's House

Did he treat his wife like a child, or was he standing up for his daughter's autonomy in the way that she deserved? 

As a parent, it can be a real struggle to get your kids to wear formal attire. To be fair, I understand where kids are coming from! Tights and Mary Janes are uncomfortable, as are many of the formal dresses designed for little girls. It's super common for some kids to be resistant to wearing dresses, so if you're a parent of a little one, you should have a plan B if your kid starts pitching a fit about it. If you know that your kid doesn't like dresses, you can pitch alternative outfits. For most events, there's no reason that a girl child shouldn't be able to wear a nice shirt, sweater, and slacks. She might even feel more comfortable wearing a little suit! If your daughter is miserable at the concept of putting on a dress, you're all going to be miserable if you force her to wear it. Whether or not you're miserable is your choice to make.

The mom in this story insisted that her daughter wear a dress to see her grandmother, but the dad insisted that his wife listen to his daughter about what she wants. If you were in this situation as a parent, how would you handle it?

If this were written by a woman about her husband it would be a landslide in the opposite direction (the husband would be a for taking the rabbit, the wife would be just and reasonable for uniting the child and rabbit). Ultimately, the punishment of taking the beloved rabbit doesn't fit the crime of not wearing a dress, that's a bad lesson to teach the child because it's not a lesson at all, it's an adult abusing her power. This is something she'll take note to and might result her in accepting her husband treating her that way in the future. You're modeling her and her future. Think always: is this how I'd like my daughter to be treated in the future?
